Architecture women taking the lead

After Ruth Reed, first woman president of RIBA, it’s now Karen Anderson’s turn: she’s in fact just been announced as new Chair of Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS), the Scottish body created in 2005 by the Scottish Government in order to “inspire better quality in design and architecture so that Scotland’s built environment contributes in a positive way to Ministers strategic objectives and the National Outcomes.

Karen Anderson, already a Board member of Architecture and Design Scotland and a former Commissioner of the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland, graduated from Glasgow’s Mackintosh School of Architecture in 1984 and is a founding partner of Anderson, Bell Christie Architects (estabilished in Glasgow in 1991), with significant experience in social housing and community involvement in re-development, masterplanning and urban and rural design guidance.
